When you insert a 1/64~1/32oz nail sinker into your head (see illustration), you swing your head side to side and fall, creating a weakened gill-like fall action. Also, when you retrieve while inserting a series of fine twitches, a lively head movement occurs. Sometimes bass that aren't interested in the fall action suddenly lung, so it's highly recommended. Tearing the slit at the tail allows for a different action vector.
